Taste of Success in Cedar Square

A family business has opened its third café-restaurant in the town centre thanks to help from Blackpool Council’s Invest in Blackpool Grant & Loan Fund.

After 20 years trading at Woodheads Café, Alan and Joan Wrigley, took on a second business, the Coffee Pot, and in 2009 took the plunge and acquired a third business, formerly Vincent’s on the Square.

A £100,000 investment has helped transform a tired eatery into the thriving business it is today – the stylish Number 5 café-restaurant; one of a number of businesses fronting the redeveloped Cedar Square.

The extra finance has helped Number 5 open up extra floorspace on the first floor, having previously been assisted with shop frontage grant from the Council’s Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI). With the help of their two sons Steven and Simon, who now manage the businesses, the Wrigley family are now one of the leading lights in Blackpool’s new café culture, with outdoor seating for the summer season.

This latest venture received a total of £65,000 financial assistance in the form of both a grant and a loan from Invest in Blackpool. The Invest in Blackpool Grant and Loan Fund offers financial incentives to businesses and new investors within target regeneration areas, who wish to fast track their expansion plans and create new jobs.

Steven Wrigley said;

“Invest in Blackpool is a fantastic idea. Blackpool needs private investment across the town and this is supported by the grant and loan scheme."

"Number Five now serves quality food throughout the day along with a sensational new evening menu.”

Number Five has also taken advantage of a new wifi service available to town centre businesses through Wireless Blackpool, offering customers access to the free town centre wifi zone.
