Built with pride

The cream of Blackpool's building trade have been officially recognised at the 2008 Blackpool Built In Quality Awards.

The awards ceremony acknowledges and rewards those businesses that achieve high standards of construction, workmanship and customer satisfaction.

Projects range from single-storey home extensions to multi-million pounds developments.

This year's winners are:

  • Melrose Developments for their regeneration development on George Street
  • Eclipse Developments for their domestic work at Alwood Avenue, Blackpool
  • Wiggetts Construction for their housing work on Louise Street and
  • Calder Developments for their commercial work on Squires Gate Industrial Estate

More than 1,000 buildings are either under construction or being altered across the town at any one time and these are inspected by the Council building control surveyors. Members of this team make nominations for the awards based on their inspections.

The winners receive the distinctive Built In Quality logo which they can now use on company stationery, vehicles and promotional literature.

Cllr Maxine Callow, Cabinet Member for Tourism and Regeneration, said: "Blackpool is currently undergoing regeneration work across many areas of the town and the Council aims to develop Blackpool into a collection of memorable neighbourhoods, distinguished by individual assets in the form of attractions, landmarks and natural public space.

"Private sector developers and investors are vital to the regeneration of Blackpool, so it is encouraging to see local builders are being recognised for their high quality work and contribution towards a better Blackpool."
