Blackpool named as 'Town/City Of The Year'
Blackpool has been named as Town/City Of The Year in the North West Property Awards for 2010.
The award recognises those public sector agencies that have achieved most in terms of regeneration and innovation.
Evidence of a strong partnership with the private sector was a key consideration and many businesses cast their vote for Blackpool in the online poll that determined the result.
The success comes after a year in which Blackpool has seen:
- Regeneration projects such as St John's, Brilliance and new sections of the promenade coming to fruition
- Commitment to further regeneration projects including Tower Festival Headlands and Talbot Gateway
- The staging of a wide range of high-quality events including Showzam, Out2Dance, European Beach Volleyball and World Fireworks
- A highly innovative approach to marketing the town which has resulted in extensive, positive PR both nationally and internationally
- A substantial increase in visitor numbers which has reaffirmed Blackpool's position as the UK's most popular beach resort
The award was announced at a ceremony in Manchester. Other finalists included Barrow, Bolton, Bury, Liverpool, Manchester, Rochdale and Wigan.
