BUILDING A BETTER BLACKPOOL
As the regeneration of Blackpool gathers momentum, large-scale construction work will be a feature of the resort’s skyline.
The development of the new Talbot Gateway around North Station, the continuing development of the seafront and the Hounds Hill Shopping Centre….these projects offer real opportunities for people to move into employment.
Our aim is to enable workless adults based deprived areas of the town to gain new or enhanced skills so they can obtain jobs on some of these construction projects.
Over £1m of funding will enable Blackpool & The Fylde College to establish and equip a new facility that is dedicated to training local people in a range of basic construction skills and then linking them into employment opportunities with local contractors.
The scheme will offer short courses for bricklayers and general operatives, aimed predominantly at unemployed adults.
The project will not just provide improved skills and qualifications to help individuals get jobs, it will also benefit local contractors who will have access to a larger pool of locally based labour.
The goal is to train just under 400 individuals over the next three years, over two thirds of whom will be workless adults based in deprived areas of Blackpool.
